    Wave 5: Brainstorming

Post  Nomad on Sat Nov 26, 2016 3:14 am

In the second post is what is on the table to start considering for now . . . sorry if I missed anything after trolling our topics.

This first post will be a placeholder for figures under serious consideration.

Examine the list below. Nominate your top 10 that you would like to see developed. I'm thinking we should go on the fast-track . . . minimal play-testing (we can judge most things pretty quickly). In my opinion, let's try to complete figures that have seen some discussion unless new units come up that are a must.

Thanks for having fun with me!

    Mostly done:
    Kayla Willowsong, Ullar Elf Ranger
    Varinn, Ullar Elf Ranger

    Need some rewording/point-adjustment:
    Sir Morgan, Sky Cavalier
Rakhalar the War Troll, Utgar Unique
Devlin Skyhawk (Lawmen), Reaper Bones mini from a couple of x-mas ago
Xavier Lawson (Champion?), Reaper Bones mini from a couple of x-mas ago
Delandria, Reaper Bones mini from a couple of x-mas ago
Ellen Stone (Cowboy/Lawmen), Reaper Bones mini from a couple of x-mas ago

I would love to get these figures play-tested, as I liked my original designs (especially Ellen Stone for the Lawmen), but they need a little work.

Need Powers/Development (but would prioritize my time):

    Mallekim, Utgar Djinn
    Horned Demons, Valkrill Uncommon Hero
    Bronze medium dragons
    Owl Bear, Aquilla Totem
    Space Marine Soldiers, unique squad
Vurgoyles, Utgar or Valkrill unique squad or common hero
Lord of the Rings, Elf Archer (combat hex)

    Need work:

    Bearded Devil, Valkrill Demon
    Phase Spider, Utgar Arachnid
Black Arrow Assassins, Valkill Unique Squad
    Sir Agronn, Einar Hero
    Lion Guards, Einar Unique Squad
    Malcar, Utgar Troll Champion
Ring Wraith from Combat Hex, Shades help
    Forest Drake
    Solonavi Domineer, Mage Knight
UNA Jam Unique Hero or squad
Minions of Utgar - (Barbarians) remod/repaint
    Frostwolf
Wizard - Temple of the West
    Mohican Shaman
    Hush conversion
Unique Gnoll Archer mentioned in a Gnoll thread
    Conrad Snowdyn
    Minotaur
    Awesome Dragon
    Hornskull Brute Hero

How do we want to proceed?

    Some options:

    1. Continue with the two-man crew of Nomad and Lord Kai here on Cryptic Alliance.
    2. Continue with the two-man crew, but post our ideas for units Heroscapers to get feedback (open to public input, but we retain decision making).
    3. Continue on Cryptic Alliance, but invite one or two others aboard (Dr.Groomonkey, Dysole, William99, or others).
    4. Take it all to Heroscapers . . . become kind of like SoV, but with a panel that includes us from the NW.
    5. Discontinue NWHC and post our designs separately on Heroscapers . . .

The reason for bringing this up is that I think it would be nice to have one or two other voices. Since Derek is not able to participate much . . . There are times that I really need creative input on figures (not that you haven't been doing that, just that other ideas would be good too). I noticed that you have kind of been doing that with the "customs from Kai" topic on HS.

There are other options that I haven't thought of, for sure. I really don't like option 4 or 5, or even 3. I would be kind of in favor of option 2. We could start a new topic where we post our units and ask for input . . . maybe even run polls every now and then. We would continue here for throwing out initial ideas, discussion, and then finalizing things.

    Anyways. Please share your thoughts.

Well certainly NOT going with # 5.

    # 2. is solid. I think we can do a Pre-NWHC's thread if we get stuck (sort of like Pre-SoV). Get some ideas from people, check wording, etc.

I'm getting less and less excited about the Heroscapers on Heroscapers.com. Too many clicks/sub-groups. I like our stuff - and think it is very high quality. I'm diving into other creative projects right now .. and less 'Scape. But it will always be a staple of my gaming diet : )

Some planning-ahead would help to get gaming/play-testing going. March 18th sounds like a fun 'just play' day. Maybe you can suggest a few play-test days after that.

I picked up two new figures for each of us.

    https://i58.servimg.com/u/f58/13/40/32/34/drowsw10.jpg

Yuuzhan Vong Jedi Hunter - 58
    Legacy of the Force

    Drow Elite Warrior - 006
Icons of the Realms: Monster Menagerie 2

They look pretty good up close and are good scale with Heroscape.  The Drow made me think of a "theme" for Wave 5:  Dark Elves vs Light Elves.  We'll have Varinn & Kayla for new elves and their power is "Alliance of the Elves."  Maybe there are two Drow we can make (this 'Elite Warrior' and the Drider) to add to the Drow faction.

Could also have a Law vs Chaos theme - since we have Outlaws & Cowboys in the works.

Option 2 sounds good to me. Let's talk at the Hero/Kai-scape day about next steps.

The figures look great. I have another Drow in the works as well.

Sorry guys I haven't been to involved. Hopefully i can get back into it a bit, but with kids busy and my other undertakings, I won't have the time I once did (for periods of time). I kind of like keeping it away from heroscapers for the design process. I think adding 1 guy wouldn't be a bad thing though- who I don't know. Or maybe Jacob could get more involved and I could make sure to participate at a weekly level. I really don't like the idea of forgoing/cutting back on play testing, that is part of what I thought made our customs better than most. There are a quite a few of our released figures I have to try out, which is okay (every time I try to set something up 200 figures come out from the bins, clean those up and the map is added to and 20 new figures are out Shocked ) I really do enjoy this and will make every effort to reassert some effort, but hopefully you guys will be okay with some slow down periods.

Thanks for chiming in, Derek. This is a super busy time for me too - getting Lazyman and the Hero/Kai event on 3/18 ready to go. I will return to commenting in a few weeks.

Kai and I are OK with getting design suggestions from Heroscapers. Not voting or having any real say in our final product or anything like that - just getting suggestions. In a way, we have already been doing this with some of the repaints and mods plus a few of Kai's figures. Nothing we get on Heroscapers would be binding or anything.

I would be fine with adding a new member to the team. The two Eugene area peeps seem too active with SoV and tend to comment on things on Heroscapers so often that I don't feel like I could keep up with them. Dr.Goomonkey from Marysville seems to have interest in our conversations and is starting to active in the custom field. If we did invite someone, my vote would be for Dr.Goomonkey.

    Let me know your thoughts.
