    Type: Uncommon Hero
    Class: Hunter
    Personality: Tormented
    Size: Medium 5

    Special Powers
    INFECTED HOST
Anubian Alphas do not begin the game on the battlefield.  They must be placed on the battlefield using the Shapeshift special power.

    SHAPESHIFT
When a common small or medium Wolf you control is destroyed by an opponent, you may place that Wolf on this army card.  The Wolf figure placed on this card is the Host for this Anubian Alpha.  Place this Anubian Alpha on the space the Host figure previously occupied.  This Anubian Alpha may use the Special Powers of the Host Wolf figure's Army Card.  When this Anubian Alpha is destroyed the Host is also destroyed.

    PACK ALPHA
Instead of taking a turn with a full squad of this Anubian Alpha's Host, you may include this Anubian Alpha as one member of that Squad instead of one of the Squad figures.  Only one Anubian Alpha can be included as a member of a Wolf Squad each turn.

    Anubian Alpha

Years ago the arrival of the gigantic Werewolf Lords of Eberron brought a third race of wolves into Utgar’s ranks.  Adding to the contingent of Wolves of Badru and the Anubian Wolves, the mystical Werewolf Lords brought with them the taint of lycanthrope.

With the ability to spread the curse of lycanthrope through its fangs and claws, the Werewolves were greatly feared by the other generals.  Valiant warriors and even the most disciplined soldiers were overcome by the magical disease and turned upon their comrades with uncontrollable fury.  While the wizards and healers of Ullar and Jandar sought a cure for their fallen, the Werewolf Lords explored ways to enhance their own dark forces.

As trials for dominance continued between the three wolf races, the Wolves of Badru quickly bowed to serve the Eberron Lords.  The Anubian Wolves however were not so easily swayed and battles between their pack leaders and Werewolf Lords were ferocious.  Many Anubians fell, grievously wounded and now infected with lycanthrope.  Some never recovered, while others underwent a horrific transformation into a new breed of hybrid wolf.  These hybrids were stronger, tougher, and more vicious than before.  They were in touch with the magic of the Werewolf Lords but also influenced by the lunar magic of Valhalla’s moons.  They quickly dominated their packs rising to the position of Alpha, but ultimately they were lieutenants to the Werewolf Lords.

The Anubian Alphas retained their battle fury but they also gained the ability to shapeshift into other wolves.  This included the Wolves of Badru but also the Varkaanan Wolves from Grut or into their previous Anubian Wolf forms.  And while they could not pass on the full power of lycanthrope to others, they could influence the minds of other wolves to follow their commands.

In battle, the Alphas use their shapeshifting powers to conceal their command role.  Once wounded in the fray, the Alphas unleash their rage and reveal their true form, often taking their attacker by surprise.  Their howls and psychic commands drive their pack to increased savagery and victory in the name of Utgar.

    CHILD OF LUNA'S LEADERSHIP

    --
For Pack Alpha - the idea of the "alpha wolf" is that they lead the pack into battle - so I had the Anubian Alpha act first and then Bond. If you are using Wolves of Badru, this would then allow the Wolves to first bond with a Darklord - so two heroes would get to go (potentially an Anubian Alpha and then a second Darklord .. so maybe Khosumet, a Werewolf Lord, or an Anubian Alpah). Might be too many bonding activations.

    --
    Synergies:
    1.  Pack Alpha:  Wolves of Badru, Anubian Wolves
    2.  As a Darklord, this uncommon hero can bond with the Anubian Alpha.
    3.  Protect the Alpha:  Van Nessing, Werewolf Lord, Wolves of Badru, Anubian Wolves, Blade Dancers, Khosumet, Anubian Alpha.

Really like the Alpha Pack Bonding and the way it works. Don't really see to much here that concerns me. Perhaps being a Darklord as an uncommon hero (maybe make him an unique if he wants to be a darklord). Also, I would like the bonding to be limited to this guy and a squad of the wolves of badru without another hero being thrown in between. Maybe adding a disclaimer on this card to prevent that.

The Werewolf Lord is a Darklord and is also uncommon, so I think making this character uncommon works.

I agree with Derek - Taking a turn with Alpha, then another Darklord (bonding option when taking a turn with Wolves of Badru), and then Wolves of Badru might be too much. But if that is the intent, then I could see Alpha's points going up.

How about keeping him as a Darklord - so he can bond with Wolves of Badru, but changing his bonding to only be the Anubian Wolves?

    PACK ALPHA BONDING
After revealing an Order Marker on this Anubian Alpha, after taking a turn with this hero, you may then take a turn with a squad of [Anubian Wolves] you control that follow Utgar.

    Potential Bonding loops:

Werewolf Lord reveals an order marker - activates Moon Frenzy for Hybrids (which includes Anubian Alpha). Successfully actives Moon Frenzy and takes a turn with one Alpha. That Alpha gets to take a turn and so do the Anubian Wolves. Then the Werewolf Lord gets to go. It is only a 50/50 chance that Moon Frenzy works .. but that would be 5 activations (attacks). That's on par with Grimnak + Heavy Gruts, but it is not consistent.

Darklord bonding with Wolves of Badru would give flexibility to take a turn with a Werewolf Lord, Anubian Alpha, or someone like Khosumet .. then a squad of Wolves of Badru. No Moon Frenzy if the Werewolf Lord takes his turn through this bonding.

But the way the Alpha's bonding is worded, then the Anubians don't get to go if Alpha took a turn through moon frenzy because an order marker must be revealed on Alpha's card.

Sorry my intent at humor didn't work there.

I meant that I must have anticipated the multi-bonding which is why my OP had the 'reveal an order marker .. "

I totally blanked on that when I made my post earlier today.

    No bonding loops, as written.

Sorry about my oversight on the Darklord. I still wouldn't mind if they could bond with the wolves of badru. We could add at the end of Pack Alpha Bonding

If you use Pack Alpha Bonding ignore any bonding possibilities listed on the common squad that is taking a turn card. (Not so sure)

or if we go without the wolves of badru how about

    PACK ALPHA BONDING
After revealing an Order Marker on this Anubian Alpha, after taking a turn with this hero, you may then take a turn with a squad of [Anubian Wolves] wolf devourers you control that follow Utgar.

I am not a big fan of limiting the bonding to one squad or hero, even if there are none other in the works.

    I think the play-test for the Anubian Alpha was under-whelming : (

The Anubians are a fun unit, that can swing between 8 attack and 2 attack. I was hoping to have a Hero that added some consistency but I'm not sure this custom hit the mark. He played just like a Zombie Hulk, which is nice, but I might want to break new ground here instead. I had some ideas for making the Alpha's Common Heroes so that they didn't suffer from potential loss of Order Markers.

I'm going to push these back to Brainstorming/Re-design phase.

    New thoughts:

    Lycanthrope Option -

    Unit Name: Anubian Alpha

    General: Utgar
    Species: Hybrid
    Type: Common Hero
    Class: Hunter
    Personality: Tormented
    Size: Medium 5
    Points: 30

    Stats
    Life:        1
    Move:     6
    Range:    1
    Attack:    4
    Defense:  4

    Special Powers
    PACK ALPHA BONDING
After revealing an Order Marker on this Anubian Alpha, after taking a turn with this hero, you may then take a turn with a squad of Wolf Devourers you control.

    FOR THE PACK
When a Lycanthrope or Wolf you control who is adjacent to an Anubian Alpha receives one or more wounds, you may instead destroy that Anubian Alpha to ignore those wounds.

    SPIRIT OF LUNA
When an Anubian Alpha is destroyed, place their figure on any unique Lyncanthrope or Wolf Devourer army card you control.  Any time a figure with Spirit of Luna rolls the 20-sided die, you may add 1 to your die roll.  An army card may benefit from more than one Spirit of Luna.  At any time during its turn, a unique Lyncanthrope may remove a Spirit of Luna figure to add one Green Lyncanthropy marker to its card.

    (needs some word-smithing)

    ==
    Army Build:

    Werewolf Lord ... 140 points
    Anubian Alpha x 4 ... 30 x 4 = 120 points
    Anubian Wolves x 3 ... 75 x 3 = 225 points
    Isamu ... 10 points
    = 495 points

    Very interesting!

Tricky to play, but adds a bit of bonus to a Werewolf Lord if it were in the army build - but I'm thinking that Werewolf Lords would still be relegated to the realm of Badru wolves most often.

Something that might even encourage more use of Werewolf Lords in this build . . .

    PACK ALPHA BONDING
After revealing an Order Marker on this Anubian Alpha, after taking a turn with this hero, you may then take a turn with a squad of Wolf Devourers or 1 Lycanthrope you control.

This might bump the points for the Alpha just slightly . . .

Yeah, I thought about that as well. I'd like to add some flexibility to the werewolf 'faction' - and that would be cool for Werewolf Lords as well. The Anubian Alpha's are Hybrid's right now - so that they can be a target for Moon Frenzy. That might make a loop for Werewolf Lords (roll for Moon Frenzy - take at turn with a hybrid Alpha - then take a turn with a Wolf Squad or Werewolf Lord).

I have the Alpha's needing to "reveal an order marker" so that should prevent the loop (keep forgetting that) .. but not sure that mechanic should stay now that they are common heroes.

For simplicity, I might drop the whole green Lycanthrope marker. Just thought it would be nice to have more than 3 markers if you were only playing with one Werewolf Lord.

I like it but with some reservations. I definitely don't think common hero should be an alpha, so I like him better as uncommon. I am not real interested in having common hero's creating bonding with squads (although I could be I suppose). The spirit of Luna gives me reservations as a common hero as well- thematically. The "for the pack" power leaves me questioning it's theme a little. Is it more likely for the weaker wolf to be sacrificed or the stronger?- I always thought it was the weaker (but I could be wrong).

I like this guy better as an uncommon hero, ultimately. I do think the changes are cool nonetheless.

Trying a new direction with this custom.  Pretty complex, but hopefully "cool."

    Figures: Reaper Legendary Encounters (pre-painted)
    Name: Werewolf

    HEROSCAPE CUSTOM STATS

    Unit Name: Anubian Alpha

    General: Utgar
    Species: Hybrid
    Type: Uncommon Hero
    Class: Hunter
    Personality: Tormented
    Size: Medium 5
    Points: 25

    Stats
    Life:        3
    Move:     6
    Range:    1
    Attack:    4
    Defense:  4

    Special Powers
    INFECTED HOST
Anubian Alphas do not begin the game on the battlefield.  They must be placed on the battlefield using the Shapeshift special power.  At the start of the game chose a common small or medium Wolf figure you control.  Place the chosen figure on this army card.  For this game the chosen Wolf figure is the Host for this Anubian Alpha.  This Anubian Alpha may use the Special Powers of the Host Wolf figure.

    SHAPESHIFT
After a Wolf you control that is the same unit as the chosen host inflicts a wound, you may place that Wolf in an empty space in your start zone and place this Anubian Wolf in the space it previously occupied.

    PACK ALPHA
Instead of taking a turn with a full squad of small or medium Wolf figures you control, you may activate this Anubian Alpha as a member of that squad.

    Interesting concept.

    INFECTED HOST
Anubian Alphas do not begin the game on the battlefield. They must be placed on the battlefield using the Shapeshift special power. At the start of the game chose a common small or medium Wolf figure you control. Place the chosen figure on this army card. For this game the chosen Wolf figure is the Host for this Anubian Wolf. This Anubian Wolf may use the Special Powers of the Host Wolf figure.
Just so I understand . . . I pick a Anubian wolf squad figure and place it on the Alpha's card. That Anubian squad figure is essentially out of the game, but grants his power to the Alpha once it gets into the battle. So, you are giving up 33.3 points of squad and paying an extra 25 points for this figure - so, essentially he is about a 60 point figure. If that is correct, this is an ingenious idea!

With the Unleashed Fury power, the Alpha could have an attack of 12! Base attack of 4 plus 8 more, but it will average out to be an attack of 6 or 7.

Why Uncommon? It seems to me that the only time you would need to differentiate between multiple Alphas is when all of your wolf squad figures have been destroyed and you need to place order markers on the different Alphas, and when you are running both Anubians and Badru and want to use Alphas for both squads. I think it might be easier to just keep them common heroes. If you want to run both squads, place one of each . . . oops, nevermind. I realize that the uncommon status is necessary when the Alpha gets to use the special powers on the squad card.

Honestly, my initial reaction was, "huh?, I am not so sure," but after thinking about it more I feel like this is a very creative and rockin' design. It might need a closer look at the wording. Nice work!
