W1 - Sacred Fusiliers - RELEASED Empty Change in Personality?

Post  Nomad Sun May 26, 2013 4:43 pm

I like Kai's idea to have the Fusiliers change from Loyal to Devout (so they can earn the move bonus/leaving engagement possibility from Count Raymond).

    Everyone OK with this?

I have played this squad a dozen times or so. Does anyone else want to do more play tests or can we move it to final editing?

    Thanks

I didn't mind the Paladin bonding either, but totally the designer's call. I vote we go Final.

W1 - Sacred Fusiliers - RELEASED Empty Paladin Bonding?

Post  Nomad Sun May 26, 2013 10:28 pm

Fusiliers, Woo, Ana, and Rhogar were very, very good with good strategy.

Plus, the norm for heroscape is to name at max two personalities, classes, etc., to bond or receive synergies. So, this keeps it more in line with classic.

So, two yes votes to move it to final editing (biography, final card, final approval).

Derek - I totally understand if you want to do a play test or two - I know you haven't looked at them too closely for awhile.

I like the Devout change. I agree with limiting it to clerics or monks, keeping more in line with classic.

One last attempt at fitting in with classic a little more. The Shaolin Monks. The Sacred Fusiliers of St. Benedict (or some other branch/temple/etc. of monks would be appropriate here I think.)

Other than that I like and think it is ready for final editing. On the card you already have done is it possible to have the white lettering (name, race, commonality, personality, etc.) a little more blocky or full if that makes sense. The Power titles are good. The power wording could be darkened or thicker a bit. I wouldn't mind the outside border a bit more purplish. Although the card is very well done (I am impressed and happy to use) so I wouldn't worry about it if it is too much work.

I would rather not - it would lead one to think of these as either Buddhist Monks or Western Monks, I kind of want to leave it open (just religious monks).

I can try to make the white lettering bolder. I can't really match exactly what is on the official cards unless I want to purchase the same font they use for $30-$35, and I'm not eager to do that. The font that I used is as close as it is going to get without spending some dough. Yes - the border of the card are not as purple as the original HS cards, but it is more purple than the ones being released by C3V/SoV. I don't want to recreate the backgrounds, but if I have time I could possibly see if it is possible to alter them.

W1 - Sacred Fusiliers - RELEASED Empty Bio

Post  Nomad Wed Jul 24, 2013 1:04 am

A band of fusilier-armed brethren emerge from another newly formed allegiance:

"We are sacred! We protect all that is holy and we do their bidding . . . for the right bid." Chuckles emerge from their kin . . .

And then one, more upright than the others, voices, "Silence, fools!"

"Yes. We are sacred. Yes! We will defend against any enemies of faith - be it faith in this god or that. We are sacred because we honor and protect those who have sworn their faith, of which they have more than us. We are devout to their cause and we will die for their efforts . . . as long as they pay us a little extra for our efforts . . .", as more chuckles emerge.

"We are devout! We will do their bidding!" Nods of acceptance and willingness are accepted amongst the brethren.

This creative writing stuff is kind of fun. Improvements?

And the whole time I'd imagined these Sacred Fusiliers as so devout they took a vow of silence.  Funny how preconceptions influence the thought process.  Awesome write up and entertaining. I'll see if I can make any suggestions tomorrow.

Yep, this is what I kind of had in mind when I first started their creation. Maybe we should write and post the bios before we do the stats/powers? It might give the rest of us the understanding of what was intended.

My intent here is that these guys are not Buddhist monks or Christian monks, but rather that there are protectors of any faith, which is why I was reluctant to name them from a specific order/local. Henceforth - they can work with any cleric, any monk, etc., and be devout. They honor something about being sacred and are willing to add to that defense, but they need something tangible in exchange for that risk.

Yes - 70 points. I still compare their numbers to the Orc Archers who are at 40 . . . but the way the fusiliers work with Woo and the potential of new monks, then 70 seems like the way to go.

OP updated. Card change in progress.

I also reworded the Holy Guard power in the OP.

In comparing it to the Swog Rider, it was almost word for word. The Swog Riders bonus can stack for Arrow Gruts, which is not what we want, which can be confusing for players not in our group.

Let me know if the new wording is OK.

I think we could improve on the lingo to be more scapey.

I'll give you my thoughts when I have a little more time- something along the lines of "receive 1 additional die, up to a maximum of 1.

They look pretty similar . . . I guess it is just the order of the clauses. I prefer the way it is currently written.

The only squad that imparts defense to other figures are the Roman Legionnaires. But you can stack them up to a maximum of +2, so there is only a limited comparison.

Legionnaires card wrote:add 1 defense die for each adjacent Roman Legionnaire you control up to a maximum of +2 dice

Let me know if you come up with something better.

    becomes
All Cleric and Monk unique heroes you control adjacent to at least 1 Sacred Fusilier receive an additional defensive die.

unless we want to allow opponents clerics and monks to get the bonus. The wording is loosely from the omnicron repulsors.

    Yes - gotcha. Much better.

But what if my Woo is adjacent to my opponents Fusilier? And, I wouldn't mind the bonus helping friends. I haven't seen "defensive die" used before, so I'm changing it back to "defense die."

    How does this sound?

Whats strange is I took that straight from the OP card adding unique heroes you control and changing the end, am I missing something?.  I definitely like the way  you have it worded the best.  Nice. for some strange reason I was missing the powers above the card- Sorry if I caused some confusion here.
