Memorial Day Mayhem Tournament: Round 1

    Battle 1 @ Ice Blossom

Dwarves (Nomad #4): Axegrinders of Burning Forge x 3.5, Mogrimm Forgehammer, Migol Ironwill, Ulfrid Hornwrangler = 575.
Minions (Huskies16): Minions of Utgar x4, Runa, Jean de Ascalon = 580.

The Dwarves were the last army selection for Nomad. Huskies16 usually takes the Axegrinders in our home battles, so Nomad took them for a change. Huskies16 selected Ice Blossum thinking the flying Minions would be able to get to height and an advantage much easier than the plodding dwarves.

Rd 1: A Minion landed on the useless, for this battle, Range +4 glyph. An Axegrinder landed on the Wound glyph. After some jockeying around, the Minions hammered 3 Axegrinders to death. Jean de Ascalon took a wound from the glyph at the conclusion of the round.

Rd 2: The Minions killed three more Axegrinders this round, but Mogrimm and friends returned the favor by taking out three Minions. Runa took the wound at the end of the round from the glyph.

Rd 3: The Minions went all out, killing 5 Axegrinders and putting three wounds on Morgrimm. Morgrimm and the Axegrinders were able to dismiss 3 Minions despite numerous failed attacks. Runa took a wound from the glyph again.

Rd 4: Morgrimm and an Axegrinder each killed a Minion this round. Ulfred picked up the Oceanstrider treasure. The Minions were able to kill only one Axegrinder because they needed to spend a turn bringing up reinforcements and the Axegrinders blocked four attacks. Runa took yet another wound from the glyph.

Rd 5: Ulfred used Grim Determination and took 2 wounds before killing a Minion while the Axegrinders failed a couple of attacks. The Minions responded by taking out an Axegrinder. Morgrimm and an Axegrinder killed two Minions. Runa moved and failed her Helm rolls and attack. Morgrimm put a wound on Runa with Commander Strike while an Axegrinder fell the last of the Minions. Huskies16 lost an Order Marker.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0407
Runa and the last Minion fight for their survival

Rd 6: Nomad won initiative . . . an Axegrinder puts the finishing touches on the Tricky Kyrie, who wasn’t very tricky this battle. Huskies16 lost OM#1. Morgrimm finished the battle by successfully rolling a Commander Strike on Jean de Ascalon.

    Final Score
Ulfrid took 2 wounds from his own doing, Morgrimm took 3 wounds in round 3, Migol didn’t have to move, and Nomad had 3 Axegrinders left for a total of 283 points. It looked like the Minions had the advantage through the first three rounds, but sheer numbers, the wound glyph, and gaining the map at the end of round 3 made all the difference.

    Northwest Heroscape Customs Notes
Jean de Ascalon did absolutely nothing except for taking a wound from the glyph . . . oh, and dying. What can you expect from a 20-point filler? He didn’t change any of Runa’s rolls or the initiative rolls.

Battle 2 @ High Ways or the Highway
    Redcoat Sneaks (Nomad):
Beakface Sneaks x4, Quorik Warwitch, Darrin Razorback, 10th Regiment of Foot x4 = 590.
Minotaurs (Huskies16#2): Minotaurs of Nullandia x4, Apeo, Tecer, Bloodhunter Harpies x2 = 590.

Huskies16 picked the Minotaurs with his first selection, willing to give this full NWHC army a try. Nomad loves his Redcoats and was delighted with what he was left with. Nomad chose High Ways or the Highway thinking the 10th Regiment could get to height and pick off any Minotaurs running down the alley of the Highway.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0408
Minotaurs are lined up for their first tournament battle!

Rd 1: Nomad won initiative and went all 10th Regiment. Despite a couple of nice defense rolls by Huskies16 with the Minotaurs, their key bonding hero Tecer was dead by the end of the round. Tecer picked up the Potion of Healing treasure but couldn’t use it in time. The Minotaurs charged hard behind Tecer, killing four 10th Regiment, including one in Nomad’s start zone. A Minotaur was also able to land on the Unique Attack +1 glyph.

Rd 2: Apeo moved out to the road. Huskies16 had his Minotaurs lined up for some gores . . . and gore they did twice with a hot 20-sider. Along with a kill by Apeo, the Minotaurs took out 5 Redcoats in the round. A couple of Bloodhunter Harpies even got in a couple of moves due to the destruction. The 10th Regiment returned the favor with some hot rolling by Nomad, killing four Minotaurs. On turn 3, the Beakfaced Sneaks got into the action by killing the Minotaur in their start zone. Quorik Warwitch flocked to a more advantageous spot.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0409
A stray Minotaur creates havoc in Nomad's startzone

Rd 3: Apeo blocked three attacks on turn one, but a Redcoat bayoneted a Minotaur. Apeo took a wound leaving engagement, but killed a Redcoat, and then the Minotaurs gored and killed two more. The Harpies failed a Talon Strike. Things looked dismal as the last two Redcoats failed their attacks. Things continued to roll positive for Huskies16 as Apeo and the Minotaurs killed the last two Redcoats and put a wound on Quorik. A Harpy even took out a Sneak with a ‘14’ roll with Talon Strike. The Sneaks killed Apeo with a 2/3 skull roll and a Minotaur. To end the round, the Minotaurs took the lives of two more Sneaks.

Things looked very bleak for Nomad, he only had a 1-wound Quorick, Darrin Razorbeak, and 5 Beakfaced Sneaks. Huskies 16 still had 5 stout Minotaurs and 4 Harpies.

Rd 4: Huskies16 went all Minotaurs this round, killing three Sneaks. But the Harpies failed on their two Talon Strike attempts. Quorik left engagement for a wound, but she picked up the Potion of Healing and used on OM#3 to heal to full life. Although the Sneaks failed three attacks, the Warwitch managed to kill a Minotaur to end the round.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0410
Minotaurs move in for the kill on the few remaining Raptorians

Rd 5:  Huskies16 won initiative and went to work. The Minotaurs killed the two remaining Sneaks while a Harpy Talon Struck Darrin Razorbeak for a wound. And then on turn 3, a perfect 3/3 skull roll ended Darrin’s life. On OM#1 and 2, Quorik took a wound leaving engagement and failed on three Orb of Pain special attacks, but she was able to Flutter away from a couple of Minotaur attacks.

Rd 6: Quorik killed a Minotaur in Huskie16’s start zone. The Minotaurs move, but can’t attack. Quorik killed another Minotaur, but gets two wounds before fluttering on the Minotaur’s second attack. Quorik killed a third Minotaur in the round and then fluttered away from a Harpy attack.

Rd 7: Quorik continued her magic this round . . . she faced a whiff attack once and fluttered twice for a total of no wounds. She failed on her first three attacks on Harpies, but rolled 5/6 skulls on OM#3 to take out two of them. Hmm . . . maybe all is not lost for Nomad.

Rd 8: Quorik attacks a couple of Harpies, but they roll 6/8 shields to defend. She flutters from an attack. Quorik then rolls 5/6 skulls in two Orb of Pain attacks to kill the last two Bloodhunter Harpies! Huskies16 lost an OM. Quorik then flew to engagement with the last Minotaur and tossed 4/5 skulls . . . killing the last figure in Huskies16’s army

    Final Score
What just happened? Quorik Warwitch performed like a 300-point figure with all of those flutters and devastation she invoked. Nomad was happy. Huskies16 felt robbed.  With two lives left, Quorik brought her army a slight 37 point victory in round 1.

    Northwest Heroscape Customs Notes
For Nomad, Darrin Razorbeak felt the cold axe of death before taking a turn. Huskies16’s entire army was full of Northwest Heroscape Customs . . . they should have won. But Quorik defied all odds with the Flutters. Losing Tecer in the first round hurt big time. Perhaps if the Harpies were closer in the first couple of rounds, Talon Strike would have been enough of a difference. Close game . . . we’ll see what the Minotaurs bring next time in terms of luck and strategy.

    Battle 3 @ Ice Blossom
    Samurai (Nomad #1):
Izumi Samurai, Kozuke Samurai, Tomoe Gozen, Tagawa Samurai, Tagawa Samurai Archers x3 = 585.
Troopers (Huskies16): Microcorp Troopers x4, Augamo, Evar Scarcarver = 585.

Nomad picked the Samurai with the number one slot because he loves Samurai . . . and he has never played with the Troopers. Huskies16 was glad he got the Troopers without drafting them.

Rd 1: All Toopers for Huskies16 in the first round. They managed to snag the Thorian glyph and the Move +2 glyph. After failing on a four attacks in turn 2, the Troopers killed three Tagawa Samurai Archers on turn 3. Nomad was unable to get an attack off in the round.

Rd 2: Wow . . . the Troopers were devastating this round! Huskies16 was able to dispatch the entire Tagawa Samurai squad from range and kill an Izumi and two Archers. Tomoe Gozen was able to kill a Trooper as a fill in, but that was it. Nomad lost OM#3 which had been on the Tagawa Samurai.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0412
    Izumi Samurai are outnumbered

Rd 3: Huskies16 kept pressing with the Troopers, killing another Izumi, Tomoe Gozen, and two Kozuke Samurai. What a wipeout. Nomad rolled terribly and failed on most of his attacks, but he did manage to eliminate three Microcorp Troopers.

Rd 4: Huskies16 went with all of his OMs on the Troopers again, managing to kill another Izumi and two Tagawa Archers. The Kozuke were able to take out a couple of Troopers and gain the Thorian glyph, but the Archers failed their two attacks on OM#3.

Rd 5: Nomad won initiative and was able to kill only one Trooper in the first two turns. The Troopers were able to kill the last of the Archers and Kozuke by turn two, ending the battle with ease.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0413
Troopers are doing a little clean-up work

    Final Score
Nomad was able to kill a whopping total of seven Microcorp Troopers, and that is all. Huskies16 finished with 450 points left in his army. Augamo and Evar took a nap.

    Battle 4 @ Volcalla Rift v2
    Armocs (Nomad):
    Zogross Hardscale, Azurite Warlord, Armoc Vipers x 3 1/3, Venoc Vipers 2 2/3 = 588.
Drow (Huskies16#3): Deepwyrm Drow x4, Pelloth, Drow Chainfighter x2, Elaria the Pale, Estivara, Isamu = 590.

Huskies16 hadn’t played with the Drow much, so he decided to give them a spin. Nomad was delighted to roll with the Azurite Warlord, who he had never played with before.

Rd 1: Nomad went with all Venoc Vipers to inflict as much damage as he could before bringing in the heavy guns. The Venoc weren’t able to Frenzy, but they managed to take out a couple of Deepwyrms in the round. Huskies16 went with the Deepwyrm all three turns and took out four Venocs with ease.

Rd 2: Nomad pushed the Venocs on OM#1 and 2 and were able to kill a couple of Deepwyrm. On OM#3, Zogross and the Armocs were able to take out two Deepwyrm as they began to threaten their start zone. Huskies16 went all Drow again, wiping out all of the Venocs by the end of the round and gaining the Wound glyph on OM#3 which aided in the effort.

Rd 3: Nomad went with Armocs and their bonders. Zogross and friends decimated three Drow and regained the Wound glyph by the end of the round. A Deepwyrm was able to Hide in Darkness for the first time. The Deepwyrm were able to kill three Armocs, but one died from Zogross’s Opportunity Strike 15. Pelloth moved out on turn 3, but failed his attack. Elaria the Pale took a wound from the glyph to close the round.

Rd 4: Huskies16 won initiative. The Deepwyrm put 2 wounds on Zogross on turn 1, put Pelloth rolled 0/3 with Lolth’s Wrath to kill one of his two remaining Deepwyrm on turn 2. A Chainfighter was able to grab Zogross on turn 3, but whiffed his attack. Ouch. Despite missing many attacks, Zogross and the Armocs were able to kill the last Deepwyrm, a Chainfighter, and put a wound on Pelloth.

Rd 5: Nomad pushed as hard as he could with the advantage. Estivara fell. Isamu fell. A Chainfighter fell. Pelloth was wounded again. Pelloth and Estivara were able to take out a couple of Armocs, but Huskies16 lost OM#3.

Rd 6: Zogross and the Armocs put 2 more wounds on Pelloth and Elaria the Pale this round. Pelloth was able to take out an Armoc and Elaria put another wound on Zogross. The battle was being drawn out to it’s inevitable end.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0415
Pelloth and Elaria take on Zogross

Rd 7: Pelloth and Elaria failed big time on their attacks. The Armocs were able to take out the last two heroes bringing Nomad another victory in the first round of the Memorial Day Mayhem Tournament.

    Final Score
Nomad had 4 Armocs, a three-wound Zogross, and a once-wounded Azurite Warlord for at total of 286 points left. The Azurite was disappointed he didn’t get to take a turn, so was Nomad.

Memorial Day Mayhem Tournament: Round 2

Battle 5 @ High Ways or the Highway
    Dwarves (Nomad #4):
Axegrinders of Burning Forge x 3.5, Mogrimm Forgehammer, Migol Ironwill, Ulfrid Hornwrangler = 575.
    Armocs (Nomad): Zogross Hardscale, Azurite Warlord, Armoc Vipers x 3 1/3, Venoc Vipers 2 2/3 = 588.

Nomad decided to play his Dwarf army, so Huskies16 took the Armocs.

Rd 1: Huskies16 went all Venoc Vipers in the round. He was able to pick up the Common Attack +1 glyph on turn 1, but failed on all three attacks they got off in the round. Nomad and his Axegrinders made quick work of the Venocs, killing all eight of them by the end of the round while getting on the glyph in turn 2.

Rd 2: Nomad pushed the Axegrinders into the Armoc start zone, rolling 11 skulls out of 13 dice on the first three attacks, killing a couple of Armocs and putting two wounds on the Azurite Warlord. The Dwarves were only able to kill one more Armoc in the round. The Azurite and the Armocs struck back hard, slaughtering six Axegrinders and retaking the Glyph of Crevcor at the end of the round.

Rd 3: Ulfred used his Grim Determination Special Attack on Azurite, putting a total of four wounds on the Warlord but dying in the process. The Axegrinders added another wound on Azurite and killed three Armocs while Mogrimm killed another with Commander Strike. Azurite and the Armocs continued their teamwork, killing four Axegrinders. Zogross got to move on the last turn in the round.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0420
Ulfred hits Azurite hard, but dies with two much determination

Rd 4: Huskies16 used Zogross to put a wound on Mogrimm and kill an Axegrinder, while the Armocs took out another. On turn 1 for Nomad, Mogrimm used his Strike to kill an Armoc and then he put two wounds on Zogross while an Axegrinder followed by putting two more wounds on Zogross, who rolled exactly zero shields in the exchange. On turn 2, Mogrimm used his Strike again to wound Zogross and then finished off the lizard with a 3/4 skull roll. Migol picked up the Scarab of Invulnerability and the remaining Axegrinders retreated to end the round.

Rd 5: Nomad spent turns 1 and 2 moving to fortify the Dwarves positions. Huskies16 did the same on turn 1, and then did some damage on turn 2 when Azurlite and a couple of Armocs decimated three Axegrinders, which caused Nomad to lose his third Order Marker. Azurite and friends then went after Migol, putting three wounds on the Dwarf Leader to end the round.

Rd 6: Nomad won initiative and went with Mogrimm on turns 1 and 2, rolling zero skulls in the two attacks but rolling ‘19’ on one of his two Commander Strike’s to kill the Azurite Warlord. Migol failed to do damage on an Armoc, who rolled 3/3 shields. The Azurite and Armocs didn’t fair much better and were only able to put one more wound on Migol (his 4th). Migol rolled defense dice well and used the Scarab to stay alive to close the round.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0421
Migol and Morgrim battle with a couple of Armocs

Rd 7: Migol Ironwill and an Armoc Viper died this round. We saw a number of nice defense rolls and a few terrible attack rolls. It was down to Mogrimm against the last Armoc.

Rd 8: The Armoc went first and put a wound on Mogrimm. The Armoc rolled 2/3 shields to block Mogrimm’s attack. On turn 2, the Armoc whiffed his attack and then Mogrimm rolled 3/4 skulls to kill the Armoc and end this very close battle.

    Final Score
Mogrimm finished with a couple of wounds for a total of 80 points left. The Dwarves advance in the winner’s bracket, while the Armocs fall into the loser’s bracket.

    Battle 6 @ Volcalla Rift v2
    Redcoat Sneaks (Nomad):
Beakface Sneaks x4, Quorik Warwitch, Darrin Razorback, 10th Regiment of Foot x4 = 590.
Troopers (Huskies16): Microcorp Troopers x4, Augamo, Evar Scarcarver = 585.

Rd 1: Nomad and Huskie16 each went with their ranged squads for all three turns, climbing to the road and swamp grass height, and firing away at each other. Three Redcoats fell, four Microcorp Troopers were picked off.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0416
Troopers and Redcoats fire away at each other for the first few rounds

Rd 2: More of the same this round with each army losing three apiece.

Rd 3: Huskies16 hands started to burn with how hot his dice became this round. His Troopers wiped out six Redcoats, leaving Nomad with only one remaining. Nomad was able to kill three more Troopers in the round before moving out a couple of Sneaks on turn 3.

Rd 4: The Troopers kept shooting away, killing the last Redcoat on turn 1, rolling 4/4 skulls for 4 wounds on Quorik Warwitch on turn 2, and then using a 2/2 to kill Quorik on turn 3. The Sneaks were able to evade a few ranged shots in the round and kill three Troopers, leaving Huskies16 with only two.

Rd 5: Nomad won initiative and used the Sneaks to kill a Trooper. Augamo easily dispatched a Sneak who had strayed into his start zone. On turn 2, both the Sneaks and Augamo failed their attacks. Darrin Razorbeak jumped into the fray on turn 3 and managed to wound Augamo, but Augamo rolled 4/4 and 3/4 skulls with his Special Attack to dispatch the raptorian hero convincingly.

Huskies16 had Augamo with one wound, Evar Scarcarver, and a Trooper while Nomad was left with seven Beakfaced Sneaks.

Rd 6: Evar and Augamo teamed up to kill three of the Sneaks in the round. The Sneaks hit Evar hard with their attacks but were only able to put four wounds on the Frostragger.

Rd 7: Nomad won initiative, the Sneaks killed Evar, and Huskies16 lost OM#1. Augamo blocked a couple of Sneak attacks and then killed them both on his turn. The Sneaks killed the last Trooper and then retreated on OM#3, which saw Augamo start his pursuit of the last two Sneaks by moving to the road.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0418
The Sneaks have Augamo cornered but soon die

Rd 8: Nomad won initiative again, but opted to have his two Sneaks climb to height. Augamo picked up the Elixer of Speed Treasure Glyph. A Sneak snuck down for an attack on Augamo rolling 4/4 skulls in his attack. Huskies16 tossed his six dice in the box, saw that he didn’t roll a shield, and then he tossed his dice box across the room. The slight Sneaks took out the mighty Augamo!

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0419
    Sneak Attack!

    Final Score
With only two Beakface Sneaks left in his army, Nomad won with just 30 points. Very exciting battle, at least for Nomad. The Redcoat Sneaks will advance to face the Dwarves in the last of the unbeaten while the Troopers fall into the loser’s bracket.

    Northwest Heroscape Customs Notes
Darrin Razorbeak benefitted from Flocking to get into position to make an attack on Augamo for a wound, but died from a couple of crushing blows from the Golem on the next turn. He didn’t get his points worth this battle, but the potential for fun was there.

    Battle 7 @ Bleakshadow Pass
    Drow (Huskies16#3):
Deepwyrm Drow x4, Pelloth, Drow Chainfighter x2, Elaria the Pale, Estivara, Isamu = 590.
Minions (Huskies16): Minions of Utgar x4, Runa, Jean de Ascalon = 580.

Huskie16 decided to play with his Minion army, which meant Nomad took the Drow. Winner keeps on playing, loser is eliminated.

Rd 1: A Deepwyrm landed on the Glyph of Gerda (defense +1). Drow and Minions moved about. No attacks.

Rd 2: The Deepwyrm had a tough time breaking through the Minions’ defense, but were able to kill a couple of them by the end of the round. The Minions were able to take out a total of four Deepwyrms, including the one on Gerda.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0438
Minions and Drow square off across the battlefield

Rd 3: The Deepwrym failed their attacks on turn 1 but got Gerda back, a Chainfighter failed on turn 2, but was successful with a grab and kill of a Minion on turn 3. The Minions were able to take out two more Deepwrym in the round and kill Elaria the Pale. After 3 rounds, Huskies16 was down three Minions while Nomad was missing six Deepwyrm and Elaria.

Rd 4: Quite a number of whiffed attacks on nice defense rolls this round. On turn 2, the Deepwrym rolled 9/9 skulls in three attacks but were only able to kill one Minion. The Minions were able to remove a Chainfighter and a Deepwyrm in the round. Pelloth got into the action on turn 3, but failed his attack.

Rd 5: On turn 1, a Chainfighter rolled 3/4 skulls to kill a Minion. The Minions finally killed the Deepwrym on Gerda and then took out another. On turn 2, the Deepwrym moved forward, while the Minions took control of Gerda and rolled 4 skulls to kill poor Pelloth in one attack. Nomad lost OM#3.

Rd 6: A Chainfighter, the Deepwyrm, and Estivara all had their attacks blocked this round, making Nomad slightly frustrated at the futility of it all. Four Drow were able to hide in darkness to prevent death, but two of them succumbed to the Minion onslaught.

Rd 7: More of the same. The Minions took out a Chainfighter and Estivara while the Drow failed on two attacks and missed out on a turn by losing OM#3.

Rd 8: Down to Isamu and one solitary Deepwyrm, Nomad was hoping for a quick end to things, but Huskies16 decided to get Runa into the battle for fun. Isamu died on turn 2 at the hands of a Minion and then lost two Order Markers.

Rd 9: Runa got blood on her hands by taking out the last Deepwyrm to end the battle.

    Final Score
With Runa, Jean, and a good contingent of Minions left, Huskies16 had 443 points left on the board in this blow out. The Drow are done. The Minions live on to face the Armocs in the next round.

    Northwest Heroscape Customs Notes
Jean de Ascalon did not move and didn’t figure in much of anything, other than bumping iniative rolls for Huskies16 by one each round.

    Battle 8 @ Bleakshadow Pass
Samurai (Nomad #1): Izumi Samurai, Kozuke Samurai, Tomoe Gozen, Tagawa Samurai, Tagawa Samurai Archers x3 = 585.
Minotaurs (Huskies16#2): Minotaurs of Nullandia x4, Apeo, Tecer, Bloodhunter Harpies x2 = 590.

Nomad’s favorite Samurai battle against Huskie16’s all NWHC army in a do-or-die battle.

Rd 1: Nomad played for position. Huskies16 charged ahead with his Minotaurs and bonders, and it paid off. Tecer picked up the Whetstone of Venom Special Attack and Mintotaurs landed on the Unique Attack +1 and Defense +1 power glyphs. The Samurai Archers were able to kill the Minotaur on the defense glyph on turn 3, which was followed by a Minotaur gore of an Izumi Samurai.

Rd 2: Tecer went off in this round, taking out an Archer and two Kozuke Samurai while the Minotaurs took out a couple of Archers, including one in Nomad’s start zone on turn 3. The Samurai fought back as the Kozuke, an Archer, and Tomoe Gozen combined to kill four Minotaurs. An Izumi managed to land on the Defense +1 glyph on turn 2.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0439
A Minotaur charges into the Samurai start zone

Rd 3: Huskies16 continued with the Tecer/Minotaur combo. Tecer was able to take out the last Kozuke and an Archer, but he suffered a couple of wounds from counterstrikes. The Minotaurs were able to kill an Archer, but one of their own died from another counterstrike. After Nomad lost OM#1 from the Kozuke death, the Archers were able to kill a Minotaur and put another wound on Tecer.

Rd 4: Huskies16 won initiative again. Tecer killed an Archer, a Harpy Talon-struck the Izumi on the defense glyph, and then a Minotaur followed by killing another Archer. Nomad’s last Archer failed his attack. On turn 2, Tecer took two wounds and died from Counterstrike when Tomoe rolled 3/4 shields, but a Minotaur rolled 4/4 skulls to kill Nomad’s last Samurai Archer. Nomad lost his OM#2. On turn 3, Huskies16 sent in a Minotaur into Nomad’s start zone to kill a Tagawa Samurai. The Tagawa responded by earning their first purple marker by killing the Minotaur.

Rd 5: Apeo and Minotaurs moved on turn 1. Tomoe took a wound leaving an engagement and then she and the two Tagawas failed their attacks, rolling 3 skulls out of 14 dice. On turn 2, a Minotaur 3/4 skull attack was blocked by a 3/5 shield roll. Tomoe jumped on the defense glyph and killed a Harpy while a Tagawa took out another Minotaur. On turn 3, Huskies16 retreated with his remaining Minotaurs while Nomad sent Tomoe and the Tagawas in pursuit.

Rd 6: Again, Huskies16 won initiative, but were only able to gore one Tagawa the entire round. Nomad went on a streak with hot dice in the round, killing a Harpy and the final three Minotaurs. On those four attacks, Nomad rolled 16 skulls in 23 dice.

Rd 7: Huskies 16 won initiative for the 6th time in a row and sent out his final two Harpies. Harpy1 rolled 2/4 skulls but died from a 3/5 shield roll on counterstrike. Harpy2 rolled a perfect 3/3 skulls but the Tagawa blocked it with 3/6 shields. The Tagawa rolled four skulls to kill the last Harpy. On turn 2, Apeo suffered a wound from another counterstrike. The final Tagawa rolled four skulls to kill Apeo and end the battle.

    Final Score
The mighty Minotaurs were eliminated! With only one wound on Tomoe and a Tagawa Samurai left, Nomad won with a total of 123 points. The Samurai survive to face the Microcorp Troopers in the next round. The Minotaurs are sent home and are probably the best 0-2 army in all of the tournaments.

    Northwest Heroscape Customs Notes
Huskies16 dropped two games playing with the Minotaurs, both due to luck. Quorick went crazy with flutter in their first battle while the Samurai performed their counterstrikes and attacks beyond probability. We both wondered if the Minotaurs would have won had Huskies16 used an early turn to get the Harpies into position to use their Talon Strike – a couple of kills could have made the difference in both battles.

Really surprised the Minotaurs didn't fare better. Augamo looks like a big stone baby at the sneaks feet, love that picture. Thanks for updating. Troopers, Redcoat Sneaks and Minions for victory.

Thanks for the feedback, Derek. Yes - the Minotaurs lost both games due to good luck for me and my opponent spread them out and didn't use an early order marker on the Harpies to get them into position to Talon Strike. They are good - just difficult circumstances for them to overcome in their first two tournament battles.

Memorial Day Mayhem Tournament: Round 3

    Battle 9 @ Ice Blossom
    Dwarves (Nomad #4):
Axegrinders of Burning Forge x 3.5, Mogrimm Forgehammer, Migol Ironwill, Ulfrid Hornwrangler = 575.
Redcoat Sneaks (Nomad): Beakface Sneaks x4, Quorik Warwitch, Darrin Razorback, 10th Regiment of Foot x4 = 590.

In the battle of the unbeaten armies, Nomad decided to stick with his Dwarves as he let Huskies16 play with the Redcoat Sneaks.

Rd 1: The Axegrinders landed on the Common Attack +1 glyph and the Negation glyph, which put Quorik Warwitch’s special powers to rest for the battle. The Axegrinders were able to kill one Redcoat in four attacks, while the Redcoats could only kill two Axegrinders in eight attacks.

Rd 2: Huskies16 started spinning mostly shield in defense, as the Dwarves were only able to kill two Redcoats in 11 attacks. The Redcoats continued their surge, killing five Axegrinders and putting two wounds on Mogrimm.

Rd 3: Nomad’s Dwarves could do little this round with only Mogrimm being able to take out a solitary Redcoat. Huskies16 depended on Wait and Fires this round, rolling 9/16 skulls on Morgrimm in turn 1, but Mogrimm blocked them all. On turn 2, the 10th failed on all four attacks, but on turn 3 they managed to get a couple more wounds on Mogrimm and took out the Axegrinder on the glyph.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0446
Mogrimm caught in the wait and fire

Rd 4: The dice turned to Nomad’s favor this round. On turn 1, Mogrimm and Axegrinders took out four Redcoats, leaving Huskies16 with nothing but figures still camped in his start zone. On turns 2 and 3, the Axegrinders took out three more Redcoats which meant there were only four left. The 10th responded by picking off three Axegrinders, leaving Nomad with only a squad left.

Rd 5: Nomad got Migol, who picked up the Elixer of Speed treasure, and Ulfred into the mix this round, but only an Axegrinder was successful in killing one Redcoat. The 10th kept firing away and were able to take out three of the four remaining Axegrinders, but they failed on four attacks against Mogrimm.

Rd 6: Huskies16 won initiative, waited and then fired with his three Redcoats on Mogrimm for only one wound, which was his fifth in all. Mogrimm came off the glyph but failed his attack while the last Axegrinder was safely hidden. The Redcoats rolled 1/4 skulls in each of three Wait and Fire attacks on Mogrimm for no affect. Mogrimm killed a Redcoat. On turn 3, the Redcoats failed on their two attacks. And then Mogrimm dispatched another Redcoat.

Huskies16 had one Redcoat and all of his Raptorians while Nomad was down to one Axegrinder and his three Dwarf heroes, although Mogrimm only had one life left.

Rd 7: The last Redcoat and the Beakface Sneaks put a wound on Migol and Ulfred in the round while Mogrimm and Migol were able to each kill a Sneak.

Rd 8: On turn 2, Darrin Razorbeak was finally able to take care of Mogrimm with his second attack and then flocked over to the glyph on turn three. The Sneaks were only able to put a wound on Migol in the round. Migol and the last Axegrinder teamed up this round to three Sneaks, while Ulfred chipped in to kill the last of the Redcoats.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0447
Darrin Razorbeak prepares to dispatch Mogrimm

The battle was tight at this point. Two Sneaks, Darrin, and Quorik were up against an Axegrinder, a twice wounded Migol, and a once wounded Ulfred.

Rd 9: Huskies16 won initiative and used his Sneaks to kill the last Axegrinder. Nomad lost OM#1 and #2. On turns 2 and 3, Quorik managed to put two more wounds on Migol. Ulfred closed the round by taking out one of the Sneaks.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0448
Migol and Quorik square off in the gloaming

Rd 10: Turn 1 – Migol defended against Quorik’s attack and then rolled 3/3 skulls for 6 hits on Quorik who promptly whiffed on her defense roll and died in one attack. Turn 2 – Huskies16 lost his OM. Migol dispatched the last Sneak. Turn 3 – Darrin Razorbeak moved into position, but this was a mistake as Ulfred was able to engage him and then use Grim Determination to end the battle on his third attack.

    What a battle!

    Final Score
The Dwarf army was the last of the unbeaten armies. With only one life left on both Migol and Ulfred, they came away with a very narrow 42 point victory.

    Northwest Heroscape Customs Notes
Darrin was fun, but could have been funner. He was able to dispatch Mogrimm, but met his demise at the hands of Ulfred.

    Battle 10 @ Ice Blossom
    Armocs (Nomad):
    Zogross Hardscale, Azurite Warlord, Armoc Vipers x 3 1/3, Venoc Vipers 2 2/3 = 588.
Minions (Huskies16): Minions of Utgar x4, Runa, Jean de Ascalon = 580.

Rd 1: A Minion landed on the Summoning glyph and Huskies16 chose to bring near the Azurite Warlord. A Minion attacked whiffed and then Azurite rolled 5/6 shields to block the other two attacks. The Warlord only rolled one skull in his attack, but it was enough to take out a Minion who blanked despite rolling seven dice. An Armoc ended the round by jumping on the Glyph of Lodin.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0442
The summoned Azurite scoffs at the lowly Minions

Rd 2: Mostly blocked attacks this round. Runa took a couple of turns but managed only one Helm of Mitonsol success in nine attempts. She also failed on her two attacks after the Minions failed in all three of theirs on turn 1. The Warlord used his Furious Wrath a couple of times to dispatch Runa by turn 3. The Armocs feasted on three Minions and were able to clear the map of foes except for those still in the start zone by the end of the round.

Rd 3: The Minions took out a couple of Armocs, but most of their attacks were blocked this round. Azurite and the Armocs continued to roll, taking out four more Minions leaving Huskies16 with only a squad left.

Rd 4: The Minions were only able to kill one more Armoc, as the Vipers decimated them by turn 2. Huskies16 lost his third order marker. On turn 3, an Armoc rolled 2/3 skulls to  kill Jean de Ascalon in one attack. Battle over – quickly and convincingly.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0443
Jean will be having snake nightmares for a very long time

    Final Score
Nomad had 456 points left in this trouncing as 7 Venocs, 7 Armocs, Zogross, and a 5-life Azurite Warlord were left standing. The Minions were bumped from the tournament and the Armocs will face the winner of the Samurai and Troopers.

    Northwest Heroscape Customs Notes
Again, Jean did very little except die. He aided in one initiative roll but couldn’t boost Runa’s Helm rolls enough to make a difference.

    Battle 11 @ Volcalla Rift v2
    Samurai (Nomad #1):
Izumi Samurai, Kozuke Samurai, Tomoe Gozen, Tagawa Samurai, Tagawa Samurai Archers x3 = 585.
Troopers (Huskies16): Microcorp Troopers x4, Augamo, Evar Scarcarver = 585.

Nomad and his Samurais get a chance at revenge in this rematch of a round 1 battle.

One the very first turn of the match, Nomad sent forward his Izumi Samurai. Huskies16 rolled 1/2 skulls and 1/2 skulls in a couple of Trooper attacks to which Nomad rolled 0/6 shields and 0/5 shields for two Izumi deaths.

Things went down hill for Nomad from here.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0441
    Izumi outnumbered? Always and often

Huskies16 took turns with nothing but Microcorp Troopers the entire battle. The Samurai were able to kill all but three of the Troopers and even put a wound on Evar Scarcarver, but the outcome of the battle was never in doubt.

    Final Score
It took six whole rounds, but Huskies16 and the Troopers won with a convincing 303 points left in the arsenal. The Troopers live to fight another day while the Samurai do not.

Memorial Day Mayhem Tournament - Quarter Finals

    Battle 12 @ Bleakshadow Pass
    Armocs (Nomad):
    Zogross Hardscale, Azurite Warlord, Armoc Vipers x 3 1/3, Venoc Vipers 2 2/3 = 588.
Troopers (Huskies16): Microcorp Troopers x4, Augamo, Evar Scarcarver = 585.

Rd 1: Things started well for the snakes. The Venocs frenzied on OM#1, grabbed the Defense +2 glyph and killed a Trooper in Huskies16’s start zone. The Troopers managed to kill a Venoc, but three of the little green snakes defended! The Armocs and Azurite spent the rest of the round moving into position. On turn 2, the Troopers knocked the snake off the glyph and then put a wound on Azurite. On turn 3, the Troopers went wild with the skulls and killed four Armocs.

Rd 2: The Troopers continued their punishing ways in this round, shredding through 5 Venocs, an Armoc, and putting 3 wounds on Azurite, who went 0/9 shields on three defense rolls. The Venocs fought back, killing three Troopers while an Armoc killed another.

Rd 3: Nomad won initiative and had an Armoc land on the Unique Attack +1 and had another kill the Trooper on the Defense +2 glyph. Troopers then promptly picked off three more Armocs, leaving Nomad with only 2 left. By the end of the round, Zogross got control of the defense glyph, an Armoc retook the unique attack glyph, and the snakes killed a couple of Troopers. On turns 2 and 3, the Troopers failed on all eight of their attacks.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0444
    Troopers fire down on Zogross

Rd 4: Huskies16 won initiative as the Troopers took out an Armoc and hammered Zogross for four wounds. The Azurite Warlord charged the Trooper start zone and killed a Trooper. On turn 2, Huskies16 rolled 11 skulls in 14 dice to kill Zogross and put a wound on Azurite, but Nomad rolled an amazing 7 shields with 11 dice to block two attacks. The last Armoc took out a Trooper. On turn 3, a Trooper took the defense glyph and then fired away at the Azurite for a couple of wounds, which now totaled seven. The Azurite and Armoc combined to roll 1/7 skulls for no damage to end the round.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0445
    The last Venoc . . .

Rd 5: The Troopers took out the last Armoc. Nomad lost OM#1. The Troopers took care of the Warlord to end the battle.

    Final Score
Another battle for Huskies16 in which the Troopers received all numbered order markers. With six Troopers, Evar, and Augamo left, Huskies16 rolled to 385 point victory. The Armocs are done. The Troopers get a shot at redemption against the Redcoat Sneaks to see who will have the Dwarves in the championship.

Memorial Day Mayhem Tournament - Semi Finals

Battle 13 @ High Ways or the Highway
    Troopers (Huskies16):
Microcorp Troopers x4, Augamo, Evar Scarcarver = 585.
Redcoat Sneaks (Nomad): Beakface Sneaks x4, Quorik Warwitch, Darrin Razorback, 10th Regiment of Foot x4 = 590.

Rds 1-4: Huskies16 and Nomad went with order markers on nothing but Troopers and Redcoats until the 3rd turn in round 4, when Nomad moved out some Sneaks. The Troopers and Redcoats each climbed to the two plateaus and fired away at each other. At the end of the fourth round, Huskies16 had two Troopers left while Nomad had one Redcoat. The glyph of Lodin changed hands a few times during the skirmish.

Rd 5: Nomad rolled 3/3 skulls twice in a row for his Sneaks to kill the last of the Troopers, but Evar blocked a couple of attacks on turn 3. After failing with Trooper attacks on turn 1, Huskies16 moved Augamo out of the start zone and toward the action.

Rd 6: Augamo killed the last Redcoat and then failed on two attacks against Sneaks. Evar rolled 1/8 skulls to fail on his two attacks as well. The Sneaks were able to put a couple of wounds on Evar on the first two turns, but Augamo blocked a couple of attacks from Quorik on turn 3.

Rd 7: Nomad rolled 5/6 skulls with his Sneaks to kill Evar. Huskies16 lost his first order marker. Augamo blocked 4 Sneak attacks the rest of the round and then the big fellow went on a tear, taking out four Sneaks in two turns. After seven rounds, Huskies16 only had his full like Augamo while Nomad still had four Beakfaced Sneaks, Darrin Razorbeak, and Quorik Warwitch.

Rd 8: Augamo crushed three of the Sneaks and put two wounds on Quorik while blocking four attacks with some impressive defense rolls.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0450
Augamo seeks revenge against the Sneaks.

Rd 9: Quorik hit Augamo for two wounds due to a 1/7 shield roll. Huskies16 rolled a perfect 4/4 skull roll for three wounds on Quorik, who was able to flutter away from the second attack. On turn 2, Augamo finished off Quorik and then put two wounds on Darrin, who rolled 1/6 skulls with his double attack on Augamo for no affect. Augamo then crushed poor Darrin to death, leaving Nomad only a single sneak left in the corner of his start zone.

Rds 10 and 11: Augamo and the Sneak move around to get into position.

Rd 12: Nomad won initiative and was able to get height on Augamo, but only rolled 1 skull out of four dice, which Augamo barely blocked. Huskies16 then rolled 3 skulls to kill the Sneak and end the this thrilling battle.

    Final Score
Huskies16 wins with a half-life Augamo for 78 points. The Troopers will take on the Dwarves in the Championship. The Redcoat Sneaks had four very close contests, but are sent home in defeat.

    Northwest Heroscape Customs Notes

Darrin Razorbeak proved to be too slight a figure to go head-to-head with Augamo. Darrin is a perfect compliment to the Raptorian faction.

    Round 1 Match-ups

    Battle 1 @ Badru Valley
    Ashigaru (Nomad): Harquebues x4. Yari x3 3/4, Kato Katsuro = 590.
    Nagrubs (Huskies16-4)): Nagrubs 3, Tor-Kul-Na, Wo-Sa-Ga,  Marro Drudge x 2 1/3 = 582.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0462
Poor Wo-Sa-Ga . . . and the rest of Jacob's army. It only took 4 rounds for Kato and friends to dismantle their opponent. losing only 8 Yari and 3 Harquebus, Damon had 465 points left on the battlefield

    Battle 2 @ Badru Valley
Templars (Nomad3): Templar Calvary x3, Sir Dupuis, Captain John Varan = 590.
    Flayers (Huskies16): Mind Flayer Mastermind x2, Cxurg'gyath, Marro Dividers x4, Marro Warriors = 590.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0457
Templars and Dividers go head-to-head in the valley.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0459
The Captain played valiantly . . . it took 10 long rounds to complete, but Cxurg and the Flayers proved too much, finishing with 225 points left and too many rebirthing and dividing Marros.

    Battle 3 @ Boreal Melt
Water Spiders (Nomad2): Water Elemental x4, Zaiken, Sahuagin Raider x4, Quahon, Fyorlag Spiders x2 = 590.
Death Chasers (Jacob): Death Chasers of Thesk x4, Ogre Warhulk, Ogre Pulverizer x2, Isamu = 580.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0460
Those Death Chasers look pretty angry . . . and they played angry. After two OMs into the 4th round, Zaiken and team were routed as Jacob still had 319 points left. Damon couldn't roll dice, Jacob could. Pulverizer #1 and the Warhulk were awesome.

Battle 4 @ The Broken Skyline
Greenscales (Nomad): Charos, Greenscale Warriors x3, Sharwin Wildborn, Eravan Sunshadow = 580.
    Warforged (Huskies16-1): Warforged Soldiers x4, Heirloom, Major Q9 = 590.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0461
"My, what little guns you have . . ." Charros charged right into the fray going after Q9. Damon played a strategically brilliant game and rolled dice like a champ. Jacob rolled 0-7 in defense to get his Q-9 killed by Charros. The Greenscales and Charros crushed, convincingly. Damon had an astounding 490 points left on the battlefield, losing only a handful of little lizards.

    Round 2 Match-ups

    Battle 5 @ Ticalla Sunrise
    Ashigaru (Nomad): Harquebues x4. Yari x3 3/4, Kato Katsuro = 590.
Death Chasers (Jacob): Death Chasers of Thesk x4, Ogre Warhulk, Ogre Pulverizer x2, Isamu = 580.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0483
The Yari get their poking sticks out.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0484
Isamu has little room to vanish . . . another crushing by Damon and his Ashigaru's. Only 360 points left on the table this battle and it took five full rounds. The Chasers had a tough time defending with their poor defense. Kato and friends move on while the Death Chasers fall to the loser's bracket.

    Battle 6 @ Boreal Melt
Greenscales (Nomad): Charos, Greenscale Warriors x3, Sharwin Wildborn, Eravan Sunshadow = 580.
    Flayers (Huskies16): Mind Flayer Mastermind x2, Cxurg'gyath, Marro Dividers x4, Marro Warriors = 590.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0488
Charros presses the Flayer start-zone, setting up to do some counter-striking.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0489
Charros meets Cxurg head to head . . . and wins. This battle took a time-consuming 12 rounds to complete. Sharwin pulled off some pretty nifty stunts in the first three rounds and then it was lizard time. Damon won with 140 points left. Jacob played well, but just couldn't pull off that mind-flaying 20-sider roll. Flayers drop to the losers bracket. Greenscales will meet Kato and friends.

Battle 7 @ The Broken Skyline
Templars (Nomad3): Templar Calvary x3, Sir Dupuis, Captain John Varan = 590.
    Warforged (Huskies16-1): Warforged Soldiers x4, Heirloom, Major Q9 = 590.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0490
The Templars battled like they have never battled before. Death and destruction ensued on the poor Warforged. Only Q-9 remained for Jacob, and he held on for victory in a thrilling 9 round battle. Q-9 finished at full life for a 180 point win. Warforged move on while the Templars are sadly sent packing back into the plastic box.

    Battle 8 @ Ticalla Sunrise
Water Spiders (Nomad2): Water Elemental x4, Zaiken, Sahuagin Raider x4, Quahon, Fyorlag Spiders x2 = 590.
    Nagrubs (Huskies16-4)): Nagrubs 3, Tor-Kul-Na, Wo-Sa-Ga,  Marro Drudge x 2 1/3 = 582.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0485
Zaiken sets up the screen in water against Nagrubs and Drudge . . .

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0486
Quahon turned into a beast, rolling 6/6 to kill Tor-Kul-Na in round 3. It took only a couple more OMs for the Water Spiders to win with 288 points remaining. Surprising to both of us, the Nagrub army is eliminated after two rounds.

I will post the rest of the tournament later.

Schools Out Forever Tournament, Round 3

    Battle 9 @ Borial Melt
    Ashigaru (Nomad): Harquebues x4. Yari x3 3/4, Kato Katsuro = 590.
Greenscales (Nomad): Charos, Greenscale Warriors x3, Sharwin Wildborn, Eravan Sunshadow = 580.
The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0494
Dad let Jacob play the Greenscales. Ashigaru rolled to the biggest blow-out ever in the history of Heroscape. With only 2 Harquebus and 1 Yari dead, Dad had 550 points remaining. A couple of encircles and Harq pot shots took down Charros in round one and it was all down hill from there. Game over after the first OM in the fourth round. Ashigaru roll into the championship.

Battle 10 @ The Broken Skyline
Water Spiders (Nomad2): Water Elemental x4, Zaiken, Sahuagin Raider x4, Quahon, Fyorlag Spiders x2 = 590.
Death Chasers (Jacob): Death Chasers of Thesk x4, Ogre Warhulk, Ogre Pulverizer x2, Isamu = 580.
The Water Spiders were hoping for revenge after getting blown out in round one. It was a bit closer, but the Death Chasers won with 265 points left on the map. The Pulverizer was incredible, putting a big hurt on Quahon in round 1. The Chasers move on, the Water Spiders don't.

    Battle 11 @ Ticalla Sunrise
    Flayers (Huskies16): Mind Flayer Mastermind x2, Cxurg'gyath, Marro Dividers x4, Marro Warriors = 590.
    Warforged (Huskies16-1): Warforged Soldiers x4, Heirloom, Major Q9 = 590.
The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0495

Q-9 did most of the damage in this one as the Warforged army rolled to a 371 point victory. The Flayers are eliminated.

Schools Out Forever Tournament, Final Four

    Battle 12 @ Badru Valley
    Warforged (Huskies16-1): Warforged Soldiers x4, Heirloom, Major Q9 = 590.
Death Chasers (Jacob): Death Chasers of Thesk x4, Ogre Warhulk, Ogre Pulverizer x2, Isamu = 580.
The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0496

What a fun one this turned out to be. Dad was rolling early as the Chasers took out Q9 on the first OM of round 2. But the Warforged battled back and by using tactical switch with great affect were able to pull out the victory. With four squaddies left, the Warforged won with 107 points. The Chasers are eliminated.

    Battle 13 @ Ticalla Sunrise
    Warforged (Huskies16-1): Warforged Soldiers x4, Heirloom, Major Q9 = 590.
Greenscales (Nomad): Charos, Greenscale Warriors x3, Sharwin Wildborn, Eravan Sunshadow = 580.
The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0499

It took nine grueling rounds to complete, but Charros ended with a 4 skull attack on Q-9, who couldn't defend. The Greenscales had 227 points and will take on the Ashigaru for the championship.

    Battle 14 @ Ticalla Sunrise

    Ashigaru (Nomad): Harquebues x4. Yari x3 3/4, Kato Katsuro = 590.
Greenscales (Nomad): Charos, Greenscale Warriors x3, Sharwin Wildborn, Eravan Sunshadow = 580.
The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0501

Jacob used Charros to charge into Dad's startzone to go right after Kato. This battle was much closer than the last one, but Team Kato came away with a 255 point win after 6 rounds. The Ashigaru will definitely be the number 1 seed in the big tournament at the end.

WOW! Go Ashigaru!!! They took down Charos and the Greenscales ... which is something that I couldn't do at the last tournament when playing against Roadrage's 7-year old.

Love all the pictures .. miss a bit of the flavor text of the battles ... but appreciate the Heroscape fix!

Yep - I would like to include all of the write-ups, but for reasons of time constraints, I'm just going with pics and a brief summary.

I have two more tournaments still to post . . . Summer Solstice and Independence Day. The final field for the single elimination tournament is set and will be published as soon as I get the last two tourneys up.

    Summer Solstice Tournament

Dad rolled the higher 20-sider and couldn’t resist going with his favorite Einar Imperium army, letting Jacob take the Stingers. Jacob made the next two picks, selecting the Guards of Kaelix (Dad got the Snipers) to give them a spin and the Hive (giving Dad his Fusiliers). Dad took his other favorite in the Groks over the Predators.

Customs featured in this tournament include the Sacred Fusiliers, Commander Kaelex, Alpha Prime Enforcers, and Bishop Thaddeus.

    Maps

Elswin Plateau (BoV) – RotV, TJ, FotA
Fire Isles (BoV) – RotV, VW
Durgeth Road (custom by Damon) – SotM, RttFF x2
Shadows of Valledonn (custom by Damon) – BftU x2, TT

    Round 1 Match-ups

    Battle 1 @ Elswin Plateau
    Imperium (Damon #1):
Einar Imperium x3, Empress Kiova, Raelin the Kyrie Warrior = 590.
Stingers (Jacob): Marro Stingers x 3 2/3, Marro Gnids x3, Fenn Hydra, Feral Troll = 580.

Battle 2 @ Shadows of Valledonn
    Hive (Jacob #3):
    Marro Drones x4, Marro Hive, Marro Drudge x2, Tul-Bak-Ra = 590.
Fusiliers (Damon): Ana Karithon, Master Win Chiu Woo, Sacred Fusiliers x4, Bishop Thaddeus = 580.

    Battle 3 @ Durgeth Road
    Snipers (Damon):
    Sgt. Drake Alexander v1, Omnicron Repulsors x1 2/3, Omnicron Snipers x2 2/3, Zetacron, Eravan Sunshadow = 583.
Guards of Kaelex (Jacob #2): Commander Kaelex, Dumutef Guard x4, Drow Chainfighter x3, Alpha-Prime Enforcer x4, Warden 816, Zettian Guards = 580.

    Battle 4 @ Fire Isles
    Predators (Jacob):
    Fyorlag Spiders x3, Wyvern x2, Sujoah, Estivara = 585.
    Groks (Damon #4): Grok Riders x3, Me-Burq-Sa, Ne-Gok-Sa, Marro Warriors = 580.

Predict the winner of the whole tournament . . . I’ll be posting it all by tomorrow some time.

    Summer Solstice Tournament, Round 1

    Battle 1 @ Elswin Plateau
Imperium (Damon #1): Einar Imperium x3, Empress Kiova, Raelin the Kyrie Warrior = 590.
Stingers (Jacob): Marro Stingers x 3 2/3, Marro Gnids x3, Fenn Hydra, Feral Troll = 580.

The Kyrie gave it their best shot and made the battle last 10 rounds in this close and thrilling one. It came down to the Feral Troll against Raelin who couldn’t deliver a knock out blow. The Troll kept healing back to full life and brought Jacob a 90-point victory.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0503
Three Imperium couldn't take down the tough Feral Troll.

Battle 2 @ Shadows of Valledonn
    Hive (Jacob #3): Marro Drones x4, Marro Hive, Marro Drudge x2, Tul-Bak-Ra = 590.
Fusiliers (Damon): Ana Karithon, Master Win Chiu Woo, Sacred Fusiliers x4, Bishop Thaddeus = 580.

The Hive spawned 7 dead Drones, who were able to take out all of the Fusiliers by the 6th round. Master Woo and the Bishop were able to do the damage in the end game, finally killing the Hive in round 8. Ana chipped in to kill the last Drone in the next round. The Fusiliers still had 202 points remaining with their three heroes.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0507
Master Woo prepares to go after the Hive.

    Battle 3 @ Durgeth Road
Snipers (Damon): Sgt. Drake Alexander v1, Omnicron Repulsors x1 2/3, Omnicron Snipers x2 2/3, Zetacron, Eravan Sunshadow = 583.
Guards of Kaelex (Jacob #2): Commander Kaelex, Dumutef Guard x4, Drow Chainfighter x3, Alpha-Prime Enforcer x4, Warden 816, Zettian Guards = 580.

Another entertaining battle! Jacob really loved the way Kaelex and his pawns played in his first real test with this figure and the Alpha Primes. It was a fairly even battle as most of the commons took each other out by the end of the 5th round. The Zettians started to roll in the 6th round, taking care of Eravan and Zetacron. Drake entered the fray and quickly dispatched the Zettians in the 7th round. It would come down to Kaelex and the Warden against Drake. Kaelex moved out to engage Drake and managed to get Drake down to one life remaining while suffering a couple of wounds himself. Damon, knowing that if he killed Kaelex with Drake while engaged that he would suffer from the Deadman’s Switch power. So, he decided to leave engagement to go after the Warden . . . but Jacob rolled a skull and Drake died. Fun stuff! The Guards had 150 points remaining.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0504
The Snipers take control of the map early, but it wouldn't last.

    Battle 4 @ Fire Isles
Predators (Jacob): Fyorlag Spiders x3, Wyvern x2, Sujoah, Estivara = 585.
    Groks (Damon #4): Grok Riders x3, Me-Burq-Sa, Ne-Gok-Sa, Marro Warriors = 580.

This was one of those battles that was outright thrilling . . . for Damon. In the 4th round the dust had cleared and the Groks, Me-Burq-Sa, and the Marro Warriors rolled to a quick victory. The took some damages, but still ended up with 175 points remaining. Go Groks!

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0532
Me-Burq-Sa and the Groks are finding few spiders left to attack . . .

    Summer Solstice Tournament, Round 2

    Battle 5 @ Durgeth Road
Stingers (Jacob): Marro Stingers x 3 2/3, Marro Gnids x3, Fenn Hydra, Feral Troll = 580.
Fusiliers (Damon): Ana Karithon, Master Win Chiu Woo, Sacred Fusiliers x4, Bishop Thaddeus = 580.

The armies went right after each early and often. By the end of the 3rd round most of the commons were dead and all the heroes suffered wounds except for the Troll and the Bishop. Most importantly, Master Woo had a couple of Gnids on his card which diminished his value greatly. By the end of the 5th round, Damon was down to just the Bishop and one Fusilier . . . but the Bishop fought valiantly round after round, taking the Hydra down to one head. The Gnids finally took out the Bishop at the close of round 8 to end the battle. What?! My invincible Fusiliers have fallen, sadly. Jacob had 145 points left in a one-head Hydra, 2 Gnids, and the Feral Troll.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0536
Stingers and Woo square off early in the battle.

    Battle 6 @ Elswin Plateau
Guards of Kaelex (Jacob #2): Commander Kaelex, Dumutef Guard x4, Drow Chainfighter x3, Alpha-Prime Enforcer x4, Warden 816, Zettian Guards = 580
    Groks (Damon #4): Grok Riders x3, Me-Burq-Sa, Ne-Gok-Sa, Marro Warriors = 580.

This tournament produced another thriller. The Groks and Ne-Gok-Sa rolled right at the Guards, taking out the Zettians and all of the Alpha Primes by the end of round 3. To start the 4th round, Damon had Ne-Gok-Sa, 3 Warriors, and 3 Groks while Jacob had his two heroes, 3 Chainfighters and a Dumutef. A couple of rounds later it was just Ne-Gok-Sa and the Warriors against Kaelex and the Warden. And then the Marro Warriors took over in the last two rounds rolling great defense and just enough skulls to bring Damon and his amazing Groks a 56 point victory. Go Groks!

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0533
Dumutefs try to hold the road on the high ground.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0534
The Groks and Ne-Gok-Sa prepare to take out some guards.

    Battle 7 @ Durgeth Road
Imperium (Damon #1): Einar Imperium x3, Empress Kiova, Raelin the Kyrie Warrior = 590.
    Hive (Jacob #3): Marro Drones x4, Marro Hive, Marro Drudge x2, Tul-Bak-Ra = 590.

The Drudge played well in the first two rounds. The Imperium went after the Hive early, but couldn’t quite take it out before falling. The Drones took over the last couple of rounds to take out the rest of the Kyrie. The poor Imperium are eliminated as Jacob had a 3 wound Hive and 7 Drones left for a 197 point win. The Hive army moves on.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0537
Dad whimpered when his Imperium fell.

    Battle 8 @ Elswin Plateau
Snipers (Damon): Sgt. Drake Alexander v1, Omnicron Repulsors x1 2/3, Omnicron Snipers x2 2/3, Zetacron, Eravan Sunshadow = 583.
Predators (Jacob): Fyorlag Spiders x3, Wyvern x2, Sujoah, Estivara = 585.

Ouch. The Wyverns and Spiders rolled hot in this one. The Snipers couldn’t quite make it to height . . . Jacob and the Predators rolled in this quick 5 round battle with 371 points left on the map. The Predators will play again as the Snipers are set back into their plastic boxes.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0538
Snipers were no match for the Predators.

Round 3 Battles to be posted later.

    Winner’s Bracket

Battle 9 @ Shadows of Valledonn
Stingers (Jacob): Marro Stingers x 3 2/3, Marro Gnids x3, Fenn Hydra, Feral Troll = 580.
    Groks (Damon #4): Grok Riders x3, Me-Burq-Sa, Ne-Gok-Sa, Marro Warriors = 580.

    Loser’s Bracket

    Battle 10 @ Fire Isles
    Hive (Jacob #3): Marro Drones x4, Marro Hive, Marro Drudge x2, Tul-Bak-Ra = 590.
Predators (Jacob): Fyorlag Spiders x3, Wyvern x2, Sujoah, Estivara = 585.

    Battle 11 @ Fire Isles
Guards of Kaelex (Jacob #2): Commander Kaelex, Dumutef Guard x4, Drow Chainfighter x3, Alpha-Prime Enforcer x4, Warden 816, Zettian Guards = 580.
Fusiliers (Damon): Ana Karithon, Master Win Chiu Woo, Sacred Fusiliers x4, Bishop Thaddeus = 580.

Kaelex vs Fusiliers sounds like a fun match up! And I'm wondering if Sujoah and Poison Sting the Hive!!!

    Summer Solstice Tournament, Round 3

Battle 9 @ Shadows of Valledonn
Stingers (Jacob): Marro Stingers x 3 2/3, Marro Gnids x3, Fenn Hydra, Feral Troll = 580.
    Groks (Damon #4): Grok Riders x3, Me-Burq-Sa, Ne-Gok-Sa, Marro Warriors = 580.

The Groks had delusions of grandeur heading into the battle. The Stingers quickly and emphatically put an end to their dreams. After the Gnids set up a little screen, the Stingers stung, and stung hard. Midway through the 6th round it was over. Jacob had 413 points left with 7 Stingers, 5 Gnids, the Fenn, and the Troll. Yep, the Fenn and Troll didn’t even get to play. Stingers are in the championship. Groks fall to the loser’s bracket.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0542
Marro v. Marro in the battle of the undefeated.

    Battle 10 @ Fire Isles
    Hive (Jacob #3): Marro Drones x4, Marro Hive, Marro Drudge x2, Tul-Bak-Ra = 590.
Predators (Jacob): Fyorlag Spiders x3, Wyvern x2, Sujoah, Estivara = 585.

Sujoah landed on the Defense +2 glyph in the first round. Wyverns and Spiders were daring with the extra dice and cruised to victory after 8 rounds. The Predators had 273 points left in a 3-wound Sujoah, a Wyvern, and Estivara. The Hive is done. The Predators live on for another battle.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0543
The indestructible Wyvern puts a hurtin' on the Hive.

    Battle 11 @ Fire Isles
Guards of Kaelex (Jacob #2): Commander Kaelex, Dumutef Guard x4, Drow Chainfighter x4, Alpha-Prime Enforcer x4, Warden 816, Zettian Guards = 580.
Fusiliers (Damon): Ana Karithon, Master Win Chiu Woo, Sacred Fusiliers x4, Bishop Thaddeus = 580.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0540
    Looks like Kaelex is cornered.

Ana fell in the first round after being chain grabbed by a Drow Chainfighter. Bishop Thaddeus took a wound from Deadman’s Switch in the fifth round. In between, it was Master Woo and the Fusiliers putting on a steamroller clinic. 8 Fusiliers, 1-life Woo, and 3-life Bishop at the end resulted in a 260 point win for Damon. Kaelex and friends are done, Jacob was sad. The Fusiliers will take on the Predators in another loser out match.

    Summer Solstice Tournament, Quarter-Finals

    Battle 12 @ Elswin Plateau
Fusiliers (Damon): Ana Karithon, Master Win Chiu Woo, Sacred Fusiliers x4, Bishop Thaddeus = 580.
Predators (Jacob): Fyorlag Spiders x3, Wyvern x2, Sujoah, Estivara = 585.

Woo and his Fusiliers went into steamroller mode early and inflicted heavy damages on the Predators. In the 4th round, Woo stealth leaped into a pack of Spiders, taking out three in one turn. On the next turn, he decimated a full-life Wyvern with a 4/4 skull roll. On OM#3, Woo and the Fusiliers finished off the last Wyvern to end the battle. With 224 points left, the Fusiliers will take on the Groks. The Predators are done.

    Summer Solstice Tournament Semi-Finals

    Battle 13 @ Durgeth Road
Fusiliers (Damon): Ana Karithon, Master Win Chiu Woo, Sacred Fusiliers x4, Bishop Thaddeus = 580.
    Groks (Damon #4): Grok Riders x3, Me-Burq-Sa, Ne-Gok-Sa, Marro Warriors = 580.

Dad let Jacob take the Fusiliers so that he could play with his beloved Groks. It was a tough decision. The Groks took the lead in round 1, taking out 2 Fusiliers while suffering no damage. In round 2, Woo and the Fusiliers dominated with 6 Groks falling, 4 coming from the chops of the mighty Woo. Me-Burq-Sa also expired and Ne-Gok-Sa suffered 3 wounds. Ne-Gok-Sa went after Woo in round 3, taking out the Master before falling himself. After the dust settled from round 4, Damon had only his Marro Warriors left while Jacob had 4 Fusiliers, 3-wound Ana, and the Bishop. Exchanged shots between the Warriors and Fusiliers in round 5 resulted in 2 dead Marros, 3 dead Fusiliers, and a nearly dead Ana. Round 6 became highly strategic – Ana died and the Warriors rebirthed a comrade. After round 7, it came down to 2 Warriors against a 1 wound Bishop. In round 8, the Bishop defended well and was able to close ground on and kill a Warrior. No wounds in Round 9 – but the Bishop picked up the Ring of Protection while the last Warrior couldn’t rebirth a buddy in two attempts. In round 10, the Bishop continued to defend well but had to use the Ring and then finally corned a killed the last Marro Warrior for victory in this very thrilling battle. The Fusiliers will get a rematch with the Stingers in the Finals after this 45 point win.

    Summer Solstice Tournament Finals

    Battle 14 @ Fire Isles
Fusiliers (Damon): Ana Karithon, Master Win Chiu Woo, Sacred Fusiliers x4, Bishop Thaddeus = 580.
Stingers (Jacob): Marro Stingers x 3 2/3, Marro Gnids x3, Fenn Hydra, Feral Troll = 580.

Damon decided to take care of the Gnids before the could get on Woo’s card and killed 7 of them in round1 while only 1 Fusilier died. In round 2, the Stingers came out . . . to die. Seven Stingers and another Gnid fell while Woo took 2 wounds and 4 Fusiliers were stung. Over the next two rounds, only one Fusilier was dead as Woo and the boys marched on decimating Jacob’s army – the Fenn, the Troll, 3 Stingers, and 2 Gnids all became carcasses on the battlefield. On OM#1 in the 5th round, Woo took out the last two Gnids while the Fusiliers took out the last two Stingers. Jacob tossed his dice in disgust. The Fusiliers forced another match after drubbing the Stingers by 346 points. Ouch.

    Battle 15 @ Elswin Plateau
Fusiliers (Damon): Ana Karithon, Master Win Chiu Woo, Sacred Fusiliers x4, Bishop Thaddeus = 580.
Stingers (Jacob): Marro Stingers x 3 2/3, Marro Gnids x3, Fenn Hydra, Feral Troll = 580.

When the dust settled after the first OM in round 8, the Fusiliers celebrated in fine fashion with the trophy for the Summer Solstice Tournament. This one was slightly closer with only a 337 point margin of victory. After 5 rounds it was pretty much decided. Only 5 Fusiliers had fallen, while the Stinger army was down to 1 Stinger, 3 Gnids, the Fenn, and the Troll. In round 6, Anna rolled 9/16 shields from the hill to defend against the four headed attacking Hydra. In Round 7, the Hydra fell and the Troll picked up 6 wounds. It all came crashing down on the Stingers in round 8.

Wow!!! Fusiliers with the Come Back win!!! ... and here I thought that the Groks were going to go all the way : P

I would have expected Kaelex and the Utgar Guards to do better but there was a good amount of Range out there to pick them off. And in the Woo vs Wyverns battle, I was wondering if Talon Grab would be a deciding factor. I'm guessing Woo was nicely surrounded by devoted Fusiliers who shot down the flying predators.

And you are getting great with the pics .. I love the shot of the Grok rider from above looking down!

    Peace,

Independence Day Tournament – Round 1

Battle 1 @ Bridging the Fields of Fire
Tricksters (Derek): Laglor, Dund, Krav Maga Agents, Agent Carr, Doggin Trackers, Vindicators of Vydar = 580.
Thralls (Damon)): Rechets Of Bogdan, Iskra Esenwein, Preyblood Thrall x4, Deathstrike Thrall x4, Nicholas Esenwein, Brunak = 590.

In a thrilling battle, the Thralls came out on top with only a 2-life Brunak left against the Tricksters. Dund and the Trackers were able to push into Damon’s startzone to take out Iskra and the Rechets before much they could do much of anything. Nicholas put on some heavy hits before falling and then Brunak hung on for the 74-point victory.

    Battle 2 @ Platypus

Blade Dancers (Derek): Manauvi, Varkaanan Blade Dancers x3, Rhogar Dragonspine, Bahadur = 580.
Deathstalkers (Damon): Deathstalkers x3, Deathcommander Mark 3, Deathreavers x2, Zettian Guards = 580.

The Blade Dancers were able to grab and hold the +2 def glyph for most of the battle. This proved too much for the Deathstalkers to overcome and the Deathcommander got caught and died early in the battle by Dancers. The Blade Dancers trounced with a 318 point victory.

    Battle 3 @ Bleakshadow Pass
Samurai Archers (Damon): Hatamoto Taro, Kaemon Awa, Tagawa Samurai Archers x3 2/3, Gurei-Oni = 588.
Obsidians (Derek): Obsidian Guards x4, Warden 816, Feral Troll = 580.

Don’t tell me Hatamoto isn’t fun. The Archers were able to roll well enough to wear down the Obsidians. Counterstrike proved quite useful as well. The Archers triumphed with a 221-point win.

Battle 4 @ Bridging the Fields of Fire
Davion (Derek): Alyssa Davion, Michael Davion, Guardians of Davion x3, Wardens of the Wood = 600.
Heavy Gruts (Damon): Heavy Gruts, Nerak The Glacian Swog Rider, Tornak, Grimnak, Skerak = 590.

Grim chomps Michael as soon as Alyssa summoned him from the startzone. Damon rolled hotter than I have ever seen anyone roll in my entire life – shields or skulls dropped out of his hand whenever he wanted them. A blowout as the Heavies had 448 points left at the end of the battle.

Independence Day Tournament – Round 2

    Battle 5 @ Can’t See the Jungle
Samurai Archers (Damon): Hatamoto Taro, Kaemon Awa, Tagawa Samurai Archers x3 2/3, Gurei-Oni = 588.
Blade Dancers (Derek): Manauvi, Varkaanan Blade Dancers x3, Rhogar Dragonspine, Bahadur = 580.

The Samurai Archers and Kaemon shredded the poor Dancers. Rhogar, buffed up by both Manauvi and Bahadur spirits, rolled amazingly terrible in the end game. The surprising Archers have won their first two in the tournament with this 191 point victory. The Dancers fall into the loser’s bracket.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0569
Rhogar attempts to finish off Hatamoto and the last few Samurai.

    Battle 6 @ Bleakshadow Pass
Thralls (Damon)): Rechets Of Bogdan, Iskra Esenwein, Preyblood Thrall x4, Deathstrike Thrall x4, Nicholas Esenwein, Brunak = 590.
Heavy Gruts (Damon): Heavy Gruts, Nerak The Glacian Swog Rider, Tornak, Grimnak, Skerak = 590.

Damon took the Thralls. Derek took the Heavies. The Gruts perched on the attack glyph and the +2 defense glyph and rolled to an easy victory. Skerak got some PT and proved to be an interesting design. The Gruts finished with 473 points on the map. The Archers and Gruts will match up in the battle of the unbeatens while the Thralls are sent to the loser’s bracket.

    Battle 7 @ Can’t See the Jungle
Davion (Derek): Alyssa Davion, Michael Davion, Guardians of Davion x3, Wardens of the Wood = 600.
Tricksters (Derek): Laglor, Dund, Krav Maga Agents, Agent Carr, Doggin Trackers, Vindicators of Vydar = 580.

Derek decided to take his Davion army, letting Damon take the Tricksters. The Krav Maga with a Laglor range boost proved to be too much for the Guardians of Davion, who didn’t roll one Phantom Step the entire battle. The Tricksters had 220 points left and will face the Thralls in a rematch in the next round. The Davion army has been eliminated.

    Battle 8 @ Bleakshadow Pass
Obsidians (Derek): Obsidian Guards x4, Warden 816, Feral Troll = 580.
Deathstalkers (Damon): Deathstalkers x3, Deathcommander Mark 3, Deathreavers x2, Zettian Guards = 580.

This one was a thriller! The Deathstalkers could manage only one maul the entire battle. It took Warden816 at the end to pull out the victory for the Obsidians. Deathcommander fell in the second round again to put diminish Damon’s chances. The Stalkers are done. The Obsidians will take on the Dancers in the next round.

Independence Day Tournament – Round 3

Battle 9 @ Bridging the Fields of Fire
Samurai Archers (Damon): Hatamoto Taro, Kaemon Awa, Tagawa Samurai Archers x3 2/3, Gurei-Oni = 588.
Heavy Gruts (Damon): Heavy Gruts, Nerak The Glacian Swog Rider, Tornak, Grimnak, Skerak = 590.

Could the Tagawa Samurai Archers pull off the improbable and defeat the highly regarded Heavy Gruts? Yes they can. Derek took the Gruts while Damon played his underdog Samurai. Numerous Gruts fell to the counter-striking Archers and Kaeman, but it was a very close battle. It all came down to a 3-life Kaeman verses Grimnak at the end and Kaeman was rolling skulls. Skerak proved he was good with new powers. The Archers move on to the championship round with their 90 point victory. The Gruts will take on the winner from the loser’s bracket.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0571
Kaemon and Grimnak stare each other down.

    Battle 10 @ Can’t See the Jungle
Thralls (Damon)): Rechets Of Bogdan, Iskra Esenwein, Preyblood Thrall x4, Deathstrike Thrall x4, Nicholas Esenwein, Brunak = 590.
Tricksters (Derek): Laglor, Dund, Krav Maga Agents, Agent Carr, Doggin Trackers, Vindicators of Vydar = 580.

Dund picked up the Holy Symbol of Pellor and does some serious damage on Nicholas. The Rechets performed incredibly against Krav and Trackers, but it wasn’t enough. The Tricksters came out on top with a 193 point advantage. The Tricksters move on while the Thralls are eliminated after losing two in a row.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0574
    A Doggin' takes on Brunak.

Battle 11 @ Bridging the Fields of Fire
Obsidians (Derek): Obsidian Guards x4, Warden 816, Feral Troll = 580.
Blade Dancers (Derek): Manauvi, Varkaanan Blade Dancers x3, Rhogar Dragonspine, Bahadur = 580.

The Obsidian finally got to pick their own map and of course they went with the lava. Derek let Damon play the Blade Dancers. Throwing chunks of flaming rock, the Obsidian rolled to an impressive 380 thrashing of the Dancers, who are eliminated. The Obsidians will try to maintain momentum in the next round against the Tricksters.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 - Page 6 IMG_0573
An Obsidian ties down Varkanaans while others hurl lava pies.

Independence Day Tournament – Quarter Finals

    Battle 12 @ Platypus
Obsidians (Derek): Obsidian Guards x4, Warden 816, Feral Troll = 580.
Tricksters (Derek): Laglor, Dund, Krav Maga Agents, Agent Carr, Doggin Trackers, Vindicators of Vydar = 580.

Derek let Damon take the Tricksters. The Krav and Laglor were rolling early – getting to height and picking apart the Obsidian. Derek was down to 4 Obsidians. It was a blow out, until the 4th round when an Obsidian finally was able to engage the Krav . . . and then another . . . after taking out the Krav they took out Laglor. Damon lost 6 OMs over three rounds and Derek played with incredible strategy and Damon couldn’t roll dice worth a darn. This one hurt as the Obsidians came roaring back for victory in a 223 point win. The Tricksters are done will the Obsidians move on to face the Heavy Gruts.

Independence Day Tournament – Semi Finals

Battle 13 @ Bridging the Fields of Fire
Obsidians (Derek): Obsidian Guards x4, Warden 816, Feral Troll = 580.
Heavy Gruts (Damon): Heavy Gruts, Nerak The Glacian Swog Rider, Tornak, Grimnak, Skerak = 590.

The Obsidians chose the lava map again . . . but it didn’t matter as the Orcs put them in their rightful place by completely steamrolling to a 336 point crushing. The Obsidians had a good run but are eliminated. The Gruts will take on the Samurai in a rematch for the championship.

    Independence Day Tournament – Finals

Battle 14 and 15 @ Bleakshadow Pass, Can’t See the Jungle
Samurai Archers (Damon): Hatamoto Taro, Kaemon Awa, Tagawa Samurai Archers x3 2/3, Gurei-Oni = 588.
Heavy Gruts (Damon): Heavy Gruts, Nerak The Glacian Swog Rider, Tornak, Grimnak, Skerak = 590.

Derek took the Heavy Gruts in these two battles as the brothers were forced to play by campfire light and with flashlights. Both battles were fairly close, but Kaemon Awa couldn’t pull of his magic in these contests. The Heavies won the first one by 92 points and the second by 122 points. The Heavies are the champs while the upstart Samurai Archers finished a close second. Good times.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014

Jacob and I started this little endeavor way back around the end of December. We planned to have it done this past summer, but what is a couple of months? Honestly, it has been a blast! The structure and being able to play with or against every figure has been more than I could have hoped for.

The Big Final Tournament of 2014 is a single elimination tournament. You lose, your done. You win, you play on.

Here are the final standings of the 11 tournament winners. These armies were seeded into the Big Final Tournament of 2014 by Average Point Difference per battle.

The top 10 teams that didn’t win a tournament get to face off in play-in battles. If an army wins, they get to join the 11 tournament winners to make it a field of 16 armies.

Here are the top 10 teams who didn’t win a tournament.
